Atwell & Gent provided full planning, design, procurement, and construction administration services required to provide electrical service to the new Toyota manufacturing plant in Blue Springs, Mississippi. Design services for this project included foundations, power and control raceways, station grounding, station house, physical layout (section and elevation drawings), and electrical and controls layout and connections (single line, three line, schematic wiring, and point-to-point wiring drawings). Our firm was responsible for procurement of major equipment (circuit breakers, power transformers, relaying, and SCADA systems), review of vendor submittals and drawings as well as the incorporation of the completed vendor drawings into the final construction package. Atwell & Gent was responsible for construction administration of the project, including project coordination and scheduling, field inspections, and substation acceptance testing.

 

Project Details:

  • Construction of a new $5.1 million 80 MVA, 161/13 kV substation and 0.5 miles of two 4,000 ampere 13 kV underground feeder circuits.
  • Installation of a 161 kV bus, three 161 kV line positions, two 161 kV circuit breakers, two 24/32/40 MVA power transformers, two 15 kV busses, two 15 kV voltage regulators, two 15 kV line positions and circuit breakers, and two 4,000 ampere 15 kV risers.
  • Development and assembly of associated fencing, concrete pier, and pad foundations, station grounding, steel supports, bus work, isolation and bypass switches, station house, and relaying and control.
  • Incorporated a Supervisory Control Automation and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
  • Designed the Wellspring substation for future expansion to include a third 161 kV circuit breaker and 24/32/40 MVA power transformer.
